An exciting opportunity!

Student and Young Adult Mission Leader

St Giles Church and Friendship International: Students and Hosts (FISH) are offering an exciting opportunity for a passionate and committed individual to lead and pioneer our Student work, seeking to reach out to the 14,000 students at the University of Northampton.

St Giles is a charismatic evangelical Anglican Church in the centre of Northampton, a few minutes’ walk from the new University Campus. Our vision at St Giles is ‘to see lives being changed by the power of Jesus, one person at a time.’  Our Student and Young Adult group has seen significant growth over the last few years and we see this ministry as a priority for our church.

FISH is a registered charity, supported by local churches, that offers friendship and hospitality to the large numbers of international students at the University of Northampton. They host weekly events on campus and seek to support international students as they settle into life in the UK.

Currently less than 0.4% of students at the University of Northampton are connected to churches in Northampton. Our vision is to see students in Northampton coming to know Jesus and as such the ideal candidate for this role will have a passion for mission and evangelism. To equip you to do this we would like to fund any successful candidate with some training to help you in the role. This could be the Graduate Diploma in Theology and Student Ministry which is run by Fusion and Westminster Theology College, or some other suitable training course.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • To develop St Giles’ ministry and mission with University students, particularly seeking to reach those who are not Christians.
  • To oversee and seek to expand St Giles’ existing ministry with young adults and students.
  • To nurture those within the student and young adult ministry to be disciple making disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • To guide the Student and Young Adults leadership team to enable them to lead, resource and facilitate weekly gatherings as well as organising outreach initiatives and social activities.
  • To plan student welcome programmes, especially around key times of the year such as Freshers' Week.
  • To assist the Church Leadership in providing pastoral care for students and young adults.
  • To continue to develop the partnership with FISH and to raise the profile of mission and ministry with international students both at St Giles and beyond.

Terms and conditions:

  • Salary: £20,800 pro-rata (FTE 40 hours) annually
  • Initially 2 year fixed term contract
  • Part-time 28 hours per week (16 h/w with St Giles, 12 h/w with FISH)
  • Holiday allowance of five weeks pro rata
  • This role requires an enhanced DBS check.
