Student Mission Leader

and FISH Student Support Worker

We are looking for a pioneer and evangelist to reach out to the 14,000 students living and studying just minutes from our church.

St Giles Church and Friendship International: Students and Hosts (FISH) are offering an exciting opportunity for a passionate and committed individual to lead and pioneer our Student work, seeking to reach out to the students at the University of Northampton.

Over the last year life for Students has changed dramatically, we are looking for a dynamic and imaginative individual who is creative and willing to try new things to share the love of God with students in this town.

St Giles is a charismatic evangelical Anglican Church in the centre of Northampton, a few minutes’ walk from the University Campus. Our vision at St Giles is ‘to see lives being changed by the power of Jesus, one person at a time.’

FISH is a registered charity, supported by local churches, that offers friendship and hospitality to the large numbers of international students at the University of Northampton. They host weekly events on campus and seek to support international students as they settle into life in the UK.

Currently less than 0.4% of students at the University of Northampton are connected to churches in Northampton. Our vision is to see students in Northampton coming to know Jesus and as such the ideal candidate for this role will have a passion for mission and evangelism.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • To develop St Giles’ ministry and mission with University students, particularly seeking to reach those that are not Christians.
  • To oversee and seek to expand St Giles’ existing ministry with students
  • To nurture those within the student ministry to be disciple-making disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • To guide the Student leadership team to enable them to lead, resource and facilitate weekly gatherings as well as organising outreach initiatives and social activities.
  • To plan student welcome programmes, especially around key times of the year such as Fresher’s Week.
  • To assist the Church Leadership in providing pastoral care for students
  • To continue to develop the partnership with FISH and to raise the profile of mission and ministry with international students both at St Giles and beyond.
  • To develop friendships with overseas students at the University of Northampton; building bridges into their lives.
  • To use innovative and culturally sensitive ways to share the gospel with those of other religions and cultures.
  • To take an active role in FISH activities including the Globe café and student outings.

Terms and conditions:

  • Salary: £20,800 pro-rata (FTE 40 hours) annually
  • Initially 2 year fixed term contract
  • Part-time - 33 hours per week (21 h/w with St Giles, 12 h/w with FISH)
  • Holiday allowance of five weeks pro rata
  • This role requires an enhanced DBS check.
