Baptisms

As the foundation of Christian life, baptism is a time of joy and celebration for candidates, parents, godparents and the whole church family.

If you wish to discuss a baptismal or thanksgiving service with a member of the clergy, please contact the Church Office on 01604 628623 or email office@stgilesnorthampton.org.uk

Church of England guide to baptism

As a church, we are committed to living out the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. The baptism of those who have put their faith and trust in Christ is a joyful and wonderful occasion in the life of the church and in the life of the Christian believer.

Baptism marks a significant public occasion for those who have committed their lives to Christ and seek to be one of his disciples and faithful followers.

In baptism, Christians make firm promises and commitments including the following:-

Do you turn to Christ as Saviour?
I turn to Christ.

Do you submit to Christ as Lord?
I submit to Christ.

Do you come to Christ, the way, the truth and the life?
I come to Christ.

For families who are committed to regular worship at St Giles, we also offer infant baptism. Parents make similar promises, along with godparents. These include:-

Will you pray for him, draw him/her by your example into the community of faith and walk with him/her in the way of Christ?
With the help of God, we will.

Will you care for him/her and help him/her to take his place within the life and worship of Christ’s Church?
With the help of God, we will.

For those who are not presently committed followers of Jesus, we’d love to get to know you and you’d be most welcome to come along and meet us at one of our worship services.

We also run the Alpha Course to help people to explore the Christian faith and we’d love to welcome you to the course.
